The 10th annual "Bag Hunger" national Partners in Time
project in 2007 resulted in donations of 10.4 million pounds
of food - 59 percent more than 2006. The campaign benefited
many affiliates of America's Second Harvest, the largest
hunger-relief charity in the United States. From chili cookoffs
to brown-bag lunch assembly, creative events and
generous gifts of time take place for this favorite project,
specifically timed for summer when children cannot access
school-based meals.
Divisional chief financial officers take on the role of "chief food
officers" for Bag Hunger, challenging prior year contributions.
For 2007, Macy's East, Macy's West, Macy's Credit and
Customer Services and Macy's Corporate Marketing led the
company, and the Macy's Foundation gave $10,000 to their
local charity partners. Since Bag Hunger debuted in 1998,
volunteers have collected food and equivalent donations
totaling 30.1 million pounds, providing nearly 47 million
meals for hungry families nationwide.
